Edmonton Oilers coaches, players and fans are upset about a couple of calls that didn’t go their way in the second period of Game 4 in their playoff series with the Anaheim Ducks Wednesday.
Oilers coach Todd McLellan lost a challenge over possible goaltender interference on an Anaheim goal in the second period.
Then, with no challenge remaining for the Oilers, the Ducks scored a tying goal on a play in which they may have been offside.
From what I saw on television, I thought goaltender interference should have been called. Corey Perry’s skate appared to be in the crease when he made contact with Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot. The offside call was very close, there was nothing conclusive on my TV.
The bigger storyline is that the Oilers let a 2-0 lead get away at home. Great teams make those leads stand up. For me, Edmonton’s lack of playoff experience is a bigger story than missed calls by the officials.
