A 28-year-old Regina woman is facing charges and a man is wanted by police after they allegedly injured a taxi driver during a failed robbery last month.
According to police, officers were called to Rupert Street shortly before 4 a.m. on April 19. Police and paramedics responded, and the driver was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
Police said officers learned the driver had taken a man and woman to their destination, but that’s when things took a turn for the worse. The male passenger held a knife to the throat of the driver, police said, while the woman got out of the cab and demanded the driver hand over money.
The quick-acting driver grabbed the knife and hit the gas, police said, and the male robber jumped out of the cab.
Police said investigating officers identified both alleged robbers, and the woman was arrested last Friday. She’s been charged with robbery, and was released on an undertaking to appear in court next month.
Officers are still working to locate the other alleged robber, 22-year-old Tyrese Pratt, police said. He was described as 5-foot-8 in height, weighing about 130 pounds, with a thin build, “pock-marked medium complexion,” black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on the robbery or Pratt’s whereabouts was asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
Another taxi incident
In an unrelated incident, a 26-year-old Regina woman has been charged after a cab driver allegedly was robbed of his taxi Wednesday evening.
According to police, officers responded just after 5 p.m., to the area of Dewdney Avenue and Cameron Street, where a cabbie said he had been robbed of his taxi at knifepoint.
Police said in a release that the man drove his fare to a location behind a business in the 3000 block of Dewdney Avenue.
“When the driver stopped, the suspect got out of the vehicle, ordered the victim to exit the cab and threatened him with an axe,” the police release said. “The victim stated that when he attempted to take the axe away from the suspect, she then threatened him with a knife before getting into the driver’s seat of the cab and leaving the scene.”
The cab company used GPS to help police track the vehicle to the 1600 block of Toronto Street, where they arrested the woman. She was charged with robbery.
