Nothing ruins a long weekend quite like a ticket.
That’s a lesson hundreds of people across Saskatchewan are learning, following a very busy long weekend for police.
According to the RCMP, officers with Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan – a provincial unit comprised of RCMP and municipal police officers – handed out 795 tickets and 704 warnings over the long weekend.
Police said traffic officers also caught 14 impaired drivers, which resulted in two criminal charges and 12 licence suspensions.
The 795 tickets included 404 for speeding, 40 for cell phone use, 39 for seatbelt violations and 45 for invalid registration.
Police also issued 42 vehicle defect inspection notices over the holiday weekend.
RCMP officers also responded to three fatal collisions over the Canada Day long weekend.
