The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) is calling for action after an incident the RCMP is investigating near Pierceland.
The Mounties said officers got a call Wednesday just before noon from a driver who told police they had stopped their vehicle at the side of Highway 55 when a man approached and threatened the driver with a gun.
The victim got back in their car, drove away and called police.
On Friday, the RCMP issued a sketch of the suspect. On Monday, the FSIN put out a statement saying the driver was a young Indigenous female and claimed a non-Indigenous farmer had pointed a gun at the woman and “threatened to take her life.”
The FSIN urged people who had information about the incident to come forward.
“It’s far too often we hear how racist attitudes from rural Saskatchewan impact our people and put them in danger,” FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron said in the statement. “We will not sit idle while individuals like the suspect are free and allowed to continue to put our women in danger.”
