Charitable gaming grants are providing $2.1 million to 750 groups and organizations around Saskatchewan.
The second-quarter grants from Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan will be distributed to sport, arts and cultural organizations in more than 200 communities, along with service clubs, senior centres, hospital foundations, school programs, library programs, volunteer fire departments, animal rescue groups, and more.
The quarterly grants are made when organizations hold licensed, charitable gaming activities, the provincial government noted. Those include bingo nights, raffles, poker tournaments and Monte Carlo events.
The grants are equal to a quarter of the net revenue raised by each event, up to an annual maximum of $100,000.
Groups in Regina will get more than $508,000 in grants, while Saskatoon organizations will see almost $394,000 in grants this quarter.
Laura Ross, minister responsible for Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan, said the grants will support a wide range of charitable activities around the province.
“The strength of our province is its people,” Ross said in a statement. “Charitable organizations and the thousands of volunteers make our communities stronger and more vibrant. Our government is pleased to recognize and reward their hard work and community spirit.”
