I have been among many media members in Canada that have been critical of the CFL over the years.
From bad business decisions, to the recent overuse of video review, I’ve had lots to say.
It’s also important to give the league credit when it does the right thing. In the case of former Rider Justin Cox, the CFL has done the right thing.
On Tuesday the commissioner’s office issued a statement saying that the CFL will refuse to register a contract involving Cox, from any team, despite his acquittal this week on a charge alleging domestic violence in April in Regina.
In 2015, Cox was arrested on a charge of aggravated domestic violence, burglary and trespassing. Shortly after that Cox was released by the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.
In November of 2014, Cox was arrested as a senior at Mississippi State. He was charged with aggravated domestic violence and burglary of a dwelling. The Bulldogs suspended Cox from three games, including the Orange Bowl because of that incident.
I do believe in second chances. I don’t believe in endorsing a pattern of criminal behaviour.
