“Two people were approached by a male who demanded money and threatened to shoot them,” the police service explained in a statement. “The male revealed a firearm, then left the scene.”
The teen boy, who matched the suspect’s description, was found in the area of Fifth Avenue and Argyle Street, but police said he took off running in between houses when he was told he was under arrest.
The boy was eventually arrested after a short foot chase, and police said officers at the scene seized a loaded, sawed-off shotgun.
The boy, who can’t be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is now facing a lengthy list of charges including two counts of robbery with a restricted or prohibited firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, and numerous firearm-related charges.
