It was a regular evening for Regina’s Ken Zerbin, until he heard an all too familiar sound.
“We were just in the house and we heard a noise, which was similar to what we’ve heard in the past with accidents on the corner, but then I felt the vibration in the house,” Zerbin said.

He couldn’t see anything from his window, but then he got a call from his neighbour saying a truck hit his home.

Zerbin’s home is on the corner of Broad Street and 7th Avenue N. He said it’s a dangerous spot.
He said both roads are major connectors to the Uplands neighbourhood, Northgate Mall and the Ring Road access on Winnipeg Street.
“People just don’t see the stop signs on 7th Avenue north, so they’ll just drive right through,” he said. “And, of course, traffic on Broad Street coming from Uplands and so on is going regular speed.”

According to Regina Police Service, no injuries were reported.
Zerbin is glad no one was hurt, but he’s worried this won’t be the case in the future.

“We’ve inquired to find out if the city could put traffic lights here,” he said.
“We were told it’s kind of on the list, but it’s prioritized. We’ve been waiting over 20 years, and apparently the neighbours in the area have told me they’ve asked for years before, so it’s pretty low priority.”
Luckily for Zerbin, the damage to his home is minimal.
“We had a fairly hefty cedar bush on the corner,” he explained. “It’s destroyed, but I think it actually took the impact, probably saved our house structurally.”
This isn’t the first time a home has been hit by a vehicle on Broad Street.
Last year, a police cruiser hit a home on the corner of Broad Street and 4th Avenue N.

A media release said the officer was going north on Broad Street when a driver heading south on Broad Street turned east on 4th Avenue North.
“There was a minor collision between the two vehicles and the police vehicle came to rest against a residence in the 100 block of Broad Street,” the release said.
The police officer suffered minor injuries in the collision. The driver of the other vehicle wasn’t hurt, nor was anyone in the house.
