Disappearance of Kebo Bear now a homicide investigation: RCMP

More than a year after Kebo Bear was last seen, Mounties say his disappearance is now being treated as a homicide, and two men have been charged with manslaughter in connection.

Bear, who was 30 at the time, was last seen walking on Pelican Lake First Nation around Jan. 22, 2024.

Despite extensive ground and aerial searches, dozens of interviews, and multiple public appeals, he has not been located.On Thursday, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch and Spiritwood RCMP said two men from Pelican Lake First Nation have each been charged with one count of manslaughter.

One of the men appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Wednesday, while the other was scheduled to appear on Thursday.

RCMP say the investigation remains active, with officers still working to find Bear and bring closure to his family.
In a statement shared by police, Bear’s family said they continue to hope for answers.

“Kebo has been missing for a long time, and we want him to come home,” they wrote.

“We are asking anyone who might know anything about where he is or what happened to please call and say something. Our family misses him every day. He has a mom and dad, brothers and sisters. Most importantly, he has children who don’t understand what happened and why their dad doesn’t come to see them anymore. Please call and say something if you know anything at all. Our family needs answers and closure. Please help us and Kebo have some rest.”

RCMP are still searching for Bear, and believe someone knows the answers they’re looking for.

“Someone out there knows where Kebo is, or has information that will help us find him,” said police in the release.

At the time he went missing, Bear was described as about 5’8” tall and 130 pounds, with brown eyes and a black buzz cut. He has a bear paw tattoo on his left arm, a ring tattoo on one of his ring fingers, and piercings in his ears and lip. He was last seen wearing black pants, red shoes, a black hat and a black leather winter jacket.
