There are a few new faces amongst the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan’s unofficial election results, as Marlene Hanson was elected as secretary. However, Glen McCallum has been re-elected as president. He first won the title in 2017, after former president Robert Doucette stepped down.
The elected officials will be sworn in on June 24 at the Batoche National Historic Site. The Legislative Assembly will gather on the first weekend in September.
The Nation has recently made some leeway legally with the Supreme Court of Canada dismissing an appeal from the Saskatchewan government over a lawsuit alleging Métis Nation-Saskatchewan wasn’t consulted over uranium exploration permits.
The court also agreed with MN–S and confirmed that the Saskatchewan government was wrong to not consult them about their Indigenous land and hunting rights.
