According to SaskParks’ social media page, burned trees and damage to infrastructure are a public safety risk, and the ecosystem needs time to regenerate. Day use may be allowed later this summer.
All of the campgrounds and recreations sites at Lac La Ronge Provincial Park will remain closed until at least June 26, and new bookings have been paused. The nearby Pisew Fire has led to the evacuation of the Town of La Ronge and other communities in the area and has destroyed some homes and at least two businesses, including the historic Robertson Trading store.
No new bookings are being taken at the Candle Lake Provincial Park until further notice.
Voluntary cancellations and re-bookings are being offered with no fees until June 26.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is providing an update on the northern wildfire situation at 1:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. 650 CKOM and 980 CJME will carry the update live.
