The plot thickens when it comes to who will play quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders this week.
After missing the first two days of practice, head coach Corey Mace confirmed quarterback Trevor Harris was back on the field with the team during Thursday’s closed session.
He was listed as a full participant and has been listed as questionable ahead of the game.
“Trev was out here, so it was good to see him back out here doing his thing,” Mace said. “It’s the same process. We will look at the tape and make a decision today.”
Mace did admit it was trending to be more of a game-time decision regarding the quarterback decision.
“It may be a game-time decision with maybe on how we list it. We have to watch the tape and see that first,” Mace said.
With Harris out due to both an illness and a head injury, Jake Maier has been taking the reps with the starters.
The Riders will take on the B.C. Lions on Saturday. Kickoff for the game is set for 5 p.m. The Green Zone pregame show begins at 3 p.m.
Alford off to solid start in 2025
Kick returner Mario Alford is back with a vengeance, according to Riders’ special team co-ordinator Kent Maugeri.

“He is an angry runner now which is nice. He is scary—he has the speed to get to the edge but you hold your breath when he puts his foot in the ground and goes vertical because he’s strong enough and fast enough to run through an arm tackle and there’s a good chance he can squirt out through the other side,” Maugeri said.
This season, Alford currently averages the third-most yards per punt return (11.4) and is the only returner with a 30-yard or more return this season off a punt.
Alford also averages a league-leading 31.7 yards per kickoff return and has returned one of those for a touchdown—a 99-yard game-winner in a 39-32 victory over the Toronto Argonauts.
“I felt like I had some big returns called back (last season) and I know I could have been better but at the end of the day, I know what I can do. I just do me and just try to help my team win,” Alford said.
Fines handed out to Riders, Argos
It was an undisciplined contest between the Riders and Argos as there were 29 penalty flags thrown—18 against the Riders and 11 against the Argos.
The CFL has also issued three fines in relation to the game.
Riders slotback Dhel Duncan-Busby was fined for an illegal low block on Toronto defensive back Kenneth George Jr., Saskatchewan defensive lineman Micah Johnson was fined for a high hit on Argos quarterback Nick Arbuckle and Toronto defensive lineman Jordan Williams was fined for a late hit on Harris.
As per CFL policy, the league does not announce the amounts of player fines.
