Police in Regina are reminding property owners to take a few simple steps to reduce the chance of a garage break-in.
According to police, there have been 15 reported break-ins at garages around the city between June 17 and Tuesday. In seven of the incidents, side doors to garages were left unlocked, while two of them happened after the overhead doors were left open overnight.

“Often, simply locking these doors is enough to prevent intruders from getting in,” the Regina Police Service said in a statement.
“During the summer months, we see an increase in the number of garage door remotes stolen from vehicles, in order to break into the garage at a later time.”
Police reminded property owners to take the simple step of ensuring the building is secure to reduce the chance of a break-in or burglary, and reminded owners to remove valuables – including garage door openers – from vehicles and ensure vehicles are locked even if they’re left inside a garage.
The Regina Police Service also asked the public to be observant and to report any suspicious activity to police.
“Anyone, who has information pertaining to a garage break and enter or theft from auto incident, should call 777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477,” the police force added.
