A Regina police officer fatally shot a person Friday morning during an investigation the city’s North Central neighbourhood.
The shooting happened around 10:10 a.m. on July 18 in the 1300 block of Garnet Street, police said in a news release.
An officer discharged their firearm, striking the individual, who died at the scene.
The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team, or SIRT, is now investigating.
SIRT is a civilian-led, independent body that investigates where a person has died or suffered serious injury arising from the actions of on and off-duty police officers, or while in custody of police, as well as allegations of sexual assault or interpersonal violence involving police.
Regina police say no further details will be released while the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact SIRT.
Final reports into SIRT investigations are issued to the public within 90 days of the investigation ending.
