Two people escaped the burning home and were taken to hospital by paramedics, the RCMP said. They’re expected to be OK.
“Investigation determined an individual or individuals – known to the occupants – had entered the residence, discharged bear spray, took various items, ignited a fire, and fled in a vehicle,” the RCMP said in a release.
The RCMP said officers found the suspects less than an hour later outside of a home on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. The suspects fled the scene in a car and a truck.
Officers tried to stop the vehicles, but were unsuccessful. The driver of the truck fled the scene while the driver of the car allegedly rammed an occupied RCMP cruiser multiple times before also fleeing.
No physical injuries were reported by officers.
During the pursuit, the suspects allegedly threw an item from the car. Police said a loaded, sawed-off rifle and a magazine were later recovered.
The car eventually came to a stop and the driver and two other people were arrested.
“During a search of the vehicle, officers located and seized a butane torch lighter, bear mace, an edged weapon, ammunition and stolen property,” police said.
Three people are now facing multiple charges, including a 26-year-old woman from Sturgeon Lake First Nation, a 28-year-old man from Sturgeon Lake First Nation and a 20-year-old woman from Prince Albert.
They’re all facing charges including assaulting a police officer with a weapon, fleeing police, unsafe storage of a firearm and mischief over $5,000.
The 26-year-old woman is also facing charges of arson with disregard to human life, discharging bear spray, breaking and entering and robbery.
They made their first court appearance in Prince Albert on Monday.
The RCMP said officers are still trying to locate the truck. Anyone with information that could help the investigation was asked to contact the Prince Albert RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
