Both FoodTruck Wars and YXE Beer Wars Festival get underway in Saskatoon on Friday afternoon.
The three-day annual events will run until July 27 at 2701 Porter Street between Holy Cross High School and the Lions Arena parking lot. They are expected to attract thousands of people over the weekend.

“We have approximately 30,000 people coming through this weekend to dine at 25-plus food trucks and vendors. We have the beer wars festival as well happening at the same time with 30-plus craft Canadian alcohol vendors,” estimated festival organizer David Mah.
Mah said that all of the trucks and beer vendors at the festival this weekend will be competing against each other.
“We have best vendors and multiple categories for both the food and the alcohol. It’s very much a friendly competition. Everybody likes to have that fighting spirit and they bring it. It’s a good time,” Mah said.
Outside of the plentiful food and drink options, Mah said the festivals have a lot of other stuff happening as well.
Entertainment including a hot dog eating competition at 3 p.m. on Saturday., where competitors try to eat as many hot dogs as they can in 10 minutes.
“Everybody takes it seriously. We do have one professional guy coming in from Vancouver. He’s pretty amazing. He’s quite the spectacle,” Mah said.
“Imagine Richard Simmons, but eating a lot of hot dogs and pro wrestling —combine that and that’s what he is. He’s probably gonna be the odds-on favourite to win this year.”
Mah said Prairie Pro Wrestling will also be holding events.
“They’re coming in doing two shows — Friday (and) Saturday nights at 8 p.m. — and it’s free to watch. We do have some seats available if people want to reserve a seat.”
The festivals are open until 10 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, they open at noon and will run until 10 p.m., and on Sunday the festivals run from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This is the 11th year Foodtruck Wars has been held, and organizers combined the event with YXE Beer Wars Festival two years ago.
