Both Mounties then “discharged several rounds from their service pistols, striking the man in the torso and causing him to fall to the ground.”
The victim of the shooting died at the scene, the Serious Incident Response Team noted, while the remaining members of the group were arrested.
The RCMP said a firearm and several replica firearms were found at the scene, and noted that no officers were injured.
The watchdog agency said its investigation will examine the conduct of the police officers and the circumstances surrounding the shooting, with a report to be released publicly within 90 days of the conclusion of the investigation.
