A former Swift Current high school teacher could soon have her teaching certificate revoked in light of pleading guilty to sex crimes involving a minor.
Kara Braun, 38, attended a virtual disciplinary hearing on Wednesday conducted by the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board (SPTFRB).
During the meeting, it was said that the SPTFRB’s discipline committee was seeking the most severe sanction they could impose, which is the revocation of Braun’s certificate.

However, the board said it would not be seeking costs as Braun has been helpful and cooperative throughout the proceedings.
At Swift Current Provincial Court in January, Braun had previously pleaded guilty to one count of being in a position of trust or authority toward a minor for a sexual purpose, inciting the minor to touch the body of the accused.
The incident is said to have happened between September 2021 and June 2023.
During Wednesday’s meeting, Braun said she agreed to all of the facts of the case laid out by the board and agreed not to contest the charge against her, including not contesting the revocation of her license if found guilty by the board.
The committee said it would do its best to render a written decision as soon as possible.
A publication ban has been issued for any information that could identify the victim.
Braun was sentenced to 90 days of intermittent jail time, 23 weeks of probation and a $100 fine.
