The man who allegedly caused a crash that closed the University Bridge in Saskatoon last week is facing charges once again.
According to police, numerous calls started to come in at around 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 15, reporting a driver in a black vehicle who was “driving erratically, in the wrong lanes of travel, and disobeying traffic signals.”

An officer caught up with the vehicle on Seventh Avenue North, police said, but the driver took off at high speeds, ultimately colliding with a truck on the bridge.
The crash, which happened shortly before 9:30 a.m., left the bridge closed in both directions, though the span has since been reopened to traffic.
The 37-year-old driver was originally charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, evading police and refusing to co-operate with a demand for a blood sample, but police later said he was released from custody without charges “for admission to hospital under the Mental Health Services Act.”
On Thursday, police said the man was is again facing charges. In addition to the original charges, he was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and breach of probation.
“He remains in hospital under the Mental Health Services Act,” the police force noted.
