Saskatoon’s Broadway Bridge is expected to reopen to traffic on Saturday, according to the City of Saskatoon, barring any challenges related to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
The 93-year-old bridge was closed on May 12 for a major rehabilitation project, which included improvements to multi-use pathways and repairs to the bridge deck.

According to a statement from the city, while the bridge and Spadina Crescent will soon be open to drivers and pedestrians, repairs will continue on the arches and substructure underneath the span. The city said that work will not impact drivers, though Friendship Park will remain closed to allow for site restoration.
Businesses in the area have welcomed the reopening of the bridge, especially with the Christmas shopping season just around the corner.
In a previous interview with 650 CKOM, Heather Woytowich, a working member at Handmade House, said businesses are breathing a sigh of relief.
“It would have been nice if they had opened it right as October started,” Woytowich said, noting her businesses busiest season is coming up quickly.
“It’ll be massively important, especially as people are getting their holiday shopping done.”
Woytowich said she didn’t see a major drop in foot traffic during the closure, and the Broadway Business Improvement District helped to address worries from businesses in the area.
“They’ve been super receptive to anyone’s concerns,” she said. “They have been trying everything. They did gallery tours; they did a digital gallery tour of businesses on Broadway.”
