Cole Reschny will get a chance to represent Canada at the 2025-26 World Juniors.
The Macklin, Sask., product is one of 27 players who has received an invite to the Team Canada training camp for the U20 hockey world championships.
Reschny is the only player from the province who received an invite to the camp.
The 18-year-old was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the first round (18th overall) in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
He is currently playing his first season for the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks. He has two goals and 16 assists in 16 games for the program.
Prior to joining the NCAA, Reschny played with the WHL’s Victoria Royals. He finished with 152 career points (48 goals, 104 assists) in 127 career games with the Royals.
The headliner of the team is presumed first overall pick Gavin McKenna. McKenna was a star for the Medicine Hat Tigers before joining Penn State this year.
McKenna and forwards Porter Martone, Jett Luchanko, and Cole Beaudoin, as well as goaltenders Jack Ivankovic and Carter George, all return from last year’s team.
Three players who are currently playing in the NHL will also attend training camp for the World Juniors — defenceman Zayne Parekh (Calgary), forward Michael Misa (San Jose Sharks), and defenceman Harrison Brunicke (Pittsburgh Penguins).
The training camp will also feature 19 first-round NHL picks — eight from the 2024 draft and 11 from 2025.
Canada will look to turn things around after recent disappointments at the tournament, finishing in fifth place in 2024 and 2025. They won gold in 2023.’The tournament gets underway on Boxing Day. It is taking place in Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Minn.
