Very few details of the crash were shared by police.
“As this investigation is in its preliminary stages, we do not have additional details to share at this time,” the RCMP said in a statement.
One post on a traffic social media group reported at least five vehicles in the ditch in the area, and said one vehicle had rolled.
Police said conditions on the highway were “very icy” on Monday evening, and recommended that drivers consider postponing travel until conditions improve.
Road conditions were improving on Tuesday morning, with the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline no longer recommending against travel on Highway 16 or any other routes in the province.
The rapid changes in highway conditions came as temperatures warmed across Saskatchewan following a stretch of bitter cold.
