Peavey Mart previously operated stores in 11 communities around the province, but the stores were shuttered early last year after the company sought creditor protection. A numbered company run by a group of investors aiming to revive the well-known retailer bought the rights to Peavey Mart’s name and intellectual property in April, paving the way for the return.
“The initial store opening plan included an eventual reopening of stores in Saskatchewan,” Meagan Parisian, Peavey Mart’s leader of marketing and e-commerce, said in a statement.
“The locations that were chosen by the ownership group are reflective of a number of factors these communities hold, including the strength of the stores in these communities, an ease of access to the previously held storefronts, as well as how quickly we could expedite hiring and launch operations in the locations chosen.”
The chain also plans to reopen its store in Red Deer, Alta. in April following the reopening of three other Alberta locations in December, but the company noted that “no further decisions or timelines have been made about other future locations.”
Parisian said customers can expect the stores to be fully stocked before the start of March so they’ll be ready to welcome customers back through the doors. The focus is on locally-sourced, high-quality products that “highlight the Canadian entrepreneurial spirit,” the chain noted.
“Our suppliers recognize that we hold ourselves to a high standard and expect to deliver a top-tier experience for our customers,” Parisian said.
“They’re working with us to ship items to our Distribution Centre in Red Deer County, and in some cases directly to stores, as quickly as possible so we can fulfill these expectations.”
