The 56th addition of the tournament featured six teams from the province — Regina’s Martin Collegiate and Prince Albert’s Carlton Comprehensive, along with Saskatoon schools St. Joseph, Holy Cross, Walter Murray Collegiate, and host Bedford Road Collegiate.
Hopes for a local winner ended in the quarterfinals Friday, when Holy Cross Crusaders fell 73-70 to Winnipeg Maples, and 2024 champs Walter Murray Marauders lost to Calgary Sir Winston Churchill 64-44, leaving two Manitoba and two Alberta teams to battle it out until the end.
Saturday schedule:
Semifinal 1:30 p.m.: Winnipeg Dakota Lancers vs. Calgary Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs
Semifinal 3 p.m.: Magrath Zeniths (Alta.) vs. Winnipeg Maples Marauders
The winner of the semifinal games will advance to the championship final set for 9 p.m.
Holy Cross appeared in the last two BRIT championship games losing to rival Walter Murray in 2024 and Edmonton’s St. FX last year.
Despite having home court advantage, host Bedford Road will have to wait another year to end its BRIT championship drought since winning the inaugural tournament in 1968. The Red Hawks lost 77-47 to Dakota, and fell 43-35 to Carson Graham.
Tickets will be sold at the door of Bedford Road’s Kelly Bowers Gymnasium. For those paying with cash, a day pass will cost $10 while a tournament pass is $25. Anyone using a credit card for payment will need to pay an additional convenience fee.
