It turns out, at least some of Cora Cuthbert’s community are cheering her on as she celebrates her $18 million Lotto 6/49 win.
She was publicly revealed Thursday as Saskatchewan’s first big lottery winner since 2022.
But even before that, as word was getting around Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation, east of Weyburn, a member of the community reached out to 980 CJME to praise Cuthbert.

“I can’t think of anybody else that is more deserving of something like this,” said Chenoa McArthur, from the community.
Cuthbert was a home care aid – she had her official retirement dinner earlier this week.
“She is one of those people that, they work in the health environment and they do so many things for the community,” said McArthur. “She makes sure that people even have clean drinking water, which is really amazing.”
She said Cuthbert would also help people in the community with transportation, making sure they could get to their medical appointments even outside of office hours.
“She is just a really good person who is just so deserving,” said McArthur.
On Thursday, Cuthbert talked about having lost her father just a few months ago and taking the lottery win as a blessing from him and her late mother.
She said she’s going to use the money to help her community, splurge on her family and she wants to produce films about First Nations stories.
