A Saskatoon curling team has won a gold medal at the 2026 U18 National Curling Championships in Ontario.
Saskatchewan’s female team of Renée Wood (skip), Edie Jardine (third), Amelia Whiting (second) and Winnie Morin (lead) beat Team Ontario No. 1 8-3 to take the title on Saturday. Abby Hogeboom was the team’s alternate. The team is based out of Saskatoon’s Sutherland Curling Club.
“The dedication, sportsmanship and skill these athletes displayed on the national stage have been nothing short of inspiring,” Sutherland Curling Club general manager Dwayne Yachiw said in a news release.
Yachiw, who was also the team coach, said the gold medal game was a great battle, and both teams displayed incredible play and competitive spirit in the competition.
The win is the first-ever female gold medal for the province at the Under-18 event since it began in 2017. Team Skylar Ackerman from Moose Jaw won a silver medal at the championships in 2018.
Team Quebec No. 1 beat Team Ontario No. 2 6-5 in the male final.
