“Accessible playgrounds create spaces where users of all abilities can take part in safe, barrier-free play,” said Diana Burton, Regina’s director of recreation and cultural services.
“This new grant program reflects the city’s commitment to improving accessibility by supporting community partners in creating inclusive outdoor spaces.”
Community organizations can apply to receive some of the $160,000 through this year’s program. To qualify, organizations must finish building their playgrounds and have them open to the public by June 1, 2028. The deadline to apply is April 9 at 4 p.m.
In September, the provincial government committed $3.75 million annually over the next four years for new playground equipment in schools across the province. The funding would allow about 75 schools to receive new equipment with the grant.
