Police in Saskatoon say a crash that damaged an overpass on McKercher Drive earlier this month is being investigated as a hit and run.
Initially, police seemed to believe the same semi driver was responsible for damaging the McKercher overpass and a CPKC rail overpass on March 22. On Mon, March 30, police issued an update saying the driver responsible fo the damage to the McKercher overpass has not, in fact, been identified.

“Following continued investigation by members of the Saskatoon Police Traffic Unit, police have determined that an unknown semi driver hauling heavy equipment struck the McKercher overpass on March 22, 2026,” the police force said in a statement.
Saskatoon police said the collision is being investigated as a hit and run by traffic officers.
The damage to the McKercher overpass was reported to the city online, police said, and later confirmed by city engineers.
Police said the driver who allegedly struck the CPKC overpass left the scene of the crash, but was arrested in Martensville by RCMP officers. Police inspected the vehicle on March 23, and said the driver is now facing eight charges.
Since March 5, four overpasses in Saskatoon have been damaged in collisions.
“Operators are reminded of the requirement to follow all height, weight and transport regulations and restrictions, and inspect their loads before driving to protect roadway infrastructure and ensure the safety of all road-users,” the police force noted.
