Another piece of Regina’s history fell to a demolition crew over the weekend.
The Credit Foncier building at 2184 12th Ave. was torn down, four months after city council overturned a recommendation of the Regina Planning Commission and gave its approval to demolish the heritage building.

A requirement of the approval was to dismantle the tyndall stones in the facade to be stored and potentially reused in the future.
The three-story Credit Foncier building, later known as Canadian Western Place, was built in 1912 and was bought by Western Ltd. in 1988.
In December, representatives of the company told council the property had been significantly damaged during the fire that destroyed the adjacent Gordon Block in 2023.
They said the $3 million estimate to rehabilitate the building was well beyond what insurance would cover.
A temporary event space planned by the Regina Downtown Business Improvement District, called the “Skuare” will be extended to the Credit Foncier site.
