Crews will work from May through October on the upgrade installation, replacing electrical equipment nearing the end of or past its expected lifespan. That will include underground cables and duct banks.
Rupen Pandya, SaskPower president and CEO, said the corporation has invested close to $50 million in system improvements over the past five years for Regina’s downtown.
“This work will help to ensure business and residential customers in the heart of our province’s capital and second-largest city will have the power they need when they need it for years to come,” Pandya said in the release.
Work will be happening along streets, sidewalks and alleys downtown, as much of the infrastructure being upgraded is underground. SaskPower said in its release that the corporation will work to limit disruptions. The project is being coordinated alongside the City of Regina.
Planned outage information is available online, through MySaskPower accounts and the SaskPower app. Road restrictions can be viewed on the city’s website.
