Regina police used its plane to track a speeding vehicle through the city early Sunday morning.
Police officers saw a truck speed and run a red light at the Winnipeg Street and Fifth Avenue intersection around 1:10 a.m. on May 3, according to the Regina Police Service.

“Due to the speed and risk to public safety, ground Patrol units did not pursue the vehicle,” police said in a release.
Deploying its plane, Regina police tracked the vehicle from the sky “as it traveled through residential streets, alleys and major roadways.”
Police said the vehicle sometimes reached “speeds upwards of 100 km/h on roadways and also drove through yards and a park before leaving the city eastbound on Highway 46.”
The truck stopped at a range road dead-end just outside Regina and officers in the aerial support unit directed officers with the patrol and tactical support unit to the location.
Tire deflation devices were used on the roadway and a police drone approached the vehicle and announced the presence of police, due to safety concerns, police noted.
“At this time, the suspect driver started to travel back towards the highway, driving over top of the tire deflation devices. The suspect driver turned west on to Highway 46 and the truck came to a stop a short distance later as it had no tires due to the successful deployment of the tire deflation device,” the release stated.
Police went up to the vehicle and said three people were found inside, including a 16-year-old driver who has been charged with operation conveyance dangerous to the public and flight from a peace officer.
The teen, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, will make his first appearance on the charges in Regina Provincial Court on June 11.
