As Regina residents get their yards and gardens into shape for the spring and summer, the city is offering a helping hand.
The City of Regina said it is marking Compost Awareness Week by giving out the material for free to residents on Saturday and Sunday at the city’s composite site north of the Waste Management Centre, as long as supplies last.

“Residents are encouraged to bring pails and shovels to collect nutrient-rich compost ideal for gardens, flower beds and landscaping projects,” the city said in a statement.

Free compost can be picked up at the city’s composite site north of the Waste Management Centre. Access to the site is via Prince of Wales Drive. (City of Regina/Submitted)
The city creates compost using the material collected in food and yard waste bins, along with the city’s Yard Waste Depot.
Residents can drop by the compost site between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with access from Prince of Wales Drive.
The city noted that the compost depot is a self-serve operation and residents will need to bring their own shovels and containers.
There’s a limit of three five-gallon pails per household. Tarps must be used to secure loads of compost for transport.
