A 16-year-old Regina boy has been charged with assault with a weapon after allegedly firing a “gel blaster” water gun at two students who were walking to school on Friday.
According to police, a school resource officer got a report during the noon hour saying two students had been shot at with “what was believed to be a BB gun,” and one of the victims appeared to have sustained minor injuries.

Police did not name the school where the alleged incident took place, but the address provided by police corresponds with Walker School, an elementary school on Seventh Avenue.
“Investigation led by the School Resource Unit led officers to the suspects and suspect vehicle, where they located an ‘Orbeez’ gun (gel blaster) inside,” the Regina Police Service said in a statement.
Gel blasters are toy guns that fire water-absorbent beads, similar to the plastic BBs fired by Airsoft guns. They are commonly used in paintball-style competitions, and in some cases can closely resemble real firearms.
Police said the teen boy – who cannot be named in the media due to provisions of Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act – is scheduled to appear in court next month.
