LIVE AT THE WEYBURN OIL & GAS SHOW
8:30 – Oil and gas continues to be a cornerstone of Saskatchewan’s economy, and this week the industry’s attention turns to Weyburn for the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show. The event brings together thousands of producers, service companies, suppliers, and decision-makers to talk about where the industry is today and where it’s headed next. Evan is live at the show and kicks things off with Chris Beaudry, Minister of Energy and Resources.
Listener Question: Do you think Saskatchewan gets enough credit for the role it plays in powering and feeding the world?
9:00 – According to a new report, there are a number of imbalances in representation in the House of Commons. Mark Milke, founder and president of the Aristotle Foundation for Public Policy and former Canadian Taxpayers Federation director, who co-authored the study, says Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia are underrepresented in Parliament, while some smaller provinces, including Saskatchewan, have more seats than they would under a strict representation-by-population model. He joins us to discuss what a more balanced system would look like.
LQ: Should every Canadian vote carry roughly the same weight, regardless of which province you live in?
9:30 – The Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show is about more than equipment and technology. It’s also about the people who have built this industry and the communities that have grown alongside it. Dan Cugnet is one of those people. He’s a Weyburn-area farmer, business leader and singer-songwriter who has spent decades working in Saskatchewan’s energy sector. Today, we’ll get his take on the state of the industry, what he’s hearing from people on the grounds, and where he sees Saskatchewan’s energy future heading next.
10:00 – Brian Zinchuk, editor/owner of PipelineOnline, is here to discuss the latest oil and gas news in the province live from the Weyburn Oil & Gas Show!
11:00 – Cuba is facing one of its most challenging periods in decades, with no end in sight. This comes after last month’s U.S. indictment of the former Cuban president and the continued fuel blockade, which has essentially paralyzed food and essential services from entering the country. John Kirk, Professor Emeritus of Latin American Studies at Dalhousie University, joins us to explain how much longer Cuba can hold on and if Canada should be playing a bigger role in helping the country.
LQ: Should Canada be doing more to help Cuba, or should we stay out of it?
11:30 – Dale Mainil is a co-owner of Jerry Mainil Ltd., a Weyburn-based company that has been serving Saskatchewan’s energy industry for more than 65 years! A longtime oilpatch leader and advocate, he’s spent decades helping build one of the province’s most important industries while navigating its ups and downs and joins Evan live at The Oil & Gas Show.
12:00 – The Safety Stand Down Breakfast at the Oil & Gas Show will feature Jeremy Evans, better known as The Grizzly Dude. A grizzly bear attack survivor, he now travels the country sharing lessons on resilience, recovery and overcoming adversity.
