According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, police were notified about an injured man at a home on the Cree nation north of Prince Albert shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday. Police arriving at the scene provided first aid, but the man was pronounced dead by paramedics.
Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Steven Beatty, a resident of Timber Bay. His family has been notified of his death, the RCMP said.
The Mounties said Beatty’s death was considered suspicious, and the Saskatchewan RCMP’s homicide unit quickly took over the investigation.
On Wednesday, the RCMP said Trent Thomas John Bird, 19, is now facing a manslaughter charge in connection with Beatty’s death, and asked the public to be on the lookout for him.
Bird is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 4.
