Main Street may look a little more packed than usual in Biggar this weekend, as the community celebrates the town completing a multi-year revitalization project.
The project was launched in 2021 and represents five years of community investment and support. The completed upgrade includes improved sidewalks, new lighting and signs, a replica train station, a permanent concert stage, a farmers market space, and a new north gateway entrance.

Mayor Jim Rickwood said that the Biggar Country event is a way of saying thank you to the community.
“The event really brought us together. Our Main Street area was looking tired, it needed a fresh face, and we couldn’t have asked for a better project to come and bring everybody together.
“The generosity of not just the people in Biggar but also the families that have left and the businesses that have ties to our town and just people that got on board with it is just phenomenal. It’s actually mind-blowing what a Prairie community can do and accomplish through a pandemic,” he said.
“There’s just a lot of moving parts, but it came together so well. It was very well choreographed by an outstanding volunteer committee that raised funds and was involved in the consultation process from day one. It’s overwhelming,” said Rickwood.
Rickwood said Biggar Country will be much more than just a concert.
“Beginning the day off, we’re going to have a parade that’s at Biggar Town and Country Fair Days, and we’re going to have a parade, a pancake breakfast at the museum, lots of activities for kids, clowns, and everything at our park area.
“On Third Avenue, we’re going to have some kids events, some little pedal car things going on, little bumper car-sort of things, and I think there are usually horses there, a little bit of a petting zoo, and just a lot of kids’ activities. There’s a Fibre Fair going on at our community hall, a beer garden downtown, and there’s going to be some sales on Main Street in our commercial area,” he said.
The concert is free to attend and suitable for all ages. Starting Saturday at 7 p.m. it will feature an all-Saskatchewan lineup including Brock Andrews, Brayden King, and Jess Moskaluke. Reserve your free tickets at the Biggar Country website.
Rickwood said he expects a massive turnout.
“It’s a great thing. We have six food trucks here and three beer gardens for Biggar Country. It’s just going to be phenomenal. We’re expecting between four and five thousand people,” he said.
