“Investigation determined an adult male was walking his dog. A truck with multiple occupants inside approached the male,” the Saskatchewan RCMP explained in a statement.
“The occupants uttered threats and discharged a firearm, injuring the dog. The truck then fled from the area. The dog was declared deceased at the scene. The male did not report physical injuries to police.”
Police said officers found the suspects’ truck parked outside a home on 110th Street a short time later. Three people came out of the home and were arrested without incident, police said, while a woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to run away.
During a subsequent search of the home, the Mounties said officers found and seized a pair of guns.
The RCMP said a 37-year-old North Battleford man is now facing charges of injuring or endangering animals, reckless discharge of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon knowing it is unauthorized and possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.
A 53-year-old man, also a resident of North Battleford, was charged with unsafe storage of firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized and possession of weapons contrary to a court order, police said.
A 39-year-old woman from the Red Pheasant Cree Nation was charged with uttering threats to animals and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
“One of the males was later released from police custody without charge,” the RCMP noted.
The 37-year-old man appeared in court in North Battleford on Monday, the RCMP said, while the other two people facing charges were scheduled to appear in court in August.
