A dog that broke free from its owner and charged at Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) officers on Friday was shot and wounded during an investigation in the city’s Pleasant Hill neighbourhood on Friday morning.
SPS said in a news release on July 3 that officers investigating a report of people in a park carrying firearms were called to the 400 block of Avenue T South around 11:30 a.m. Police did not name the park.

Police said that while they were there, a large dog broke free from its owner, charged at officers and began lunging and attempting to bite.
SPS said after several attempts to de-escalate the situation, a Taser was used but had no effect and the dog continued to act aggressively.
An SPS officers shot at the animal with his service weapon, striking and wounding it. Animal Control then took the dog away to get veterinary care.
None of the officers was injured during the incident.
SPS said officers did not see any firearms and are continuing to look into the matter.
