The challenge encouraged Canadians to get active during the month of June, as the organization sought to crown Canada’s Most Active Community.
The small town, with just 725 residents, had eight organizations and 10 active groups sign up for the challenge, tracking the activity of those who took part. Including repeat participants, 5,201 people joined the activities in Ituna.
The $10,000 prize, funded by ParticipACTION and the Government of Saskatchewan, will be put towards local physical activity and sporting initiatives.
“Congratulations to the community of Ituna for being named Saskatchewan’s most active community once again,” Last Mountain-Touchwood MLA Travis Keisig said in a statement.
“ParticipACTION’s Community Challenge encourages and inspires families, seniors, adults and youth to become more physically active. We all benefit when people in our communities lead more active lifestyles. We are very proud of everyone’s efforts.”
Quebec City took home the top prize of $100,000 nationally, as Canada’s most active community. A total of 385 communities took part in the challenge this year.
