Regina police briefs: Aerial support leads to stolen vehicle arrest, arrests made in home break-in

Regina police are reporting arrests in a stolen vehicle incident and a break-in at a home in the city.

Police officers responded to the 2800 block of Narcisse Drive for a break and enter around 8:50 p.m. on Sept. 4.

Investigation determined that three suspects had entered a residence, where one suspect assaulted the victim with a baton while the other two stole several items. The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival. Officers located the victim, who was offered medical assistance but declined. The suspects and the victim were known to each other.

Police said the suspects and the victim knew each other.

Through investigation, officers identified a suspect vehicle and located it, with two of the alleged suspects inside at a home on Lorne Street. Both were arrested and a third suspect has been identified but not yet arrested, police said.

The suspects, 20 and 25, have both been charged with break enter and commit. Both made their first appearance at Regina Provincial Court on Sept. 8.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Aerial support aids in stolen vehicle arrest

One person has been charged after a stolen vehicle investigation led to an aerial police chase.

A Regina Police Service officer with the canine unit was patrolling in the area of 1st Avenue North and Broad Street on Saturday around 1:30 p.m. when he saw a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

“The officer attempted a traffic stop but the driver evaded police and sped way,” police reported. The aerial support unit was then called and “quickly got eyes on the suspect vehicle.”

Police said the vehicle was seen driving at speeds up to 140 kilometres per hour through Regina. It was not pursued by police vehicles on the ground.

The vehicle was, instead, tracked by the aerial unit until it stopped in the Regency Crescent area. Officers o the ground were sent there.

Police reported a “short foot pursuit” before a suspect was taken into custody. After the arrest, the suspect was searched by police, who found two knives and a can of bear spray on the 52-year-old man.

He is now facing several charges, including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, failure to comply with release order conditions, flight from a peace officer and operating a conveyance dangerous to the public.

The man first appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Sept. 8.
