Canada Post to switch Saskatoon, Regina addresses to community mailboxes

The way many residents in Saskatoon and Regina get their mail will be changing, according to a statement from Canada Post.

Officials say 21,000 addresses in Saskatoon — postal codes starting with S7L and S7M — will transition from door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes in 2027.

The same will be true for 24,000 addresses in Regina that start with S4V, S4N and S4S. Across the country, Canada Post has identified 55 communities that will be converted to community mailboxes.

In all, four million Canadian addresses are being converted, according to the statement. Canada Post anticipates the switch in Saskatchewan’s two largest cities will occur by October of next year.

Canada Post says, “The move to community mailboxes will increase security by putting nearly all mail and parcels delivered by Canada Post under lock and key. It will also reduce costs, as delivering to the door costs significantly more than to a community mailbox.”

According to the Canada Post website, the conversion is “a key element of the company’s plan to modernize the postal service and return to financial self-sustainability.”

Affected residents will receive notifications from Canada Post as the transition approaches. The statement also noted that people who have “functional limitations” can apply for the Delivery Accommodation Program, which provides more accessible delivery.
