Regina firefighters battle blaze at Quance Street strip mall

Regina firefighters put out a blaze at a Quance Street strip mall early on Friday morning.

The firefighters contained the fire to the East Quance Chiropractic Clinic, where it started.

Deputy fire chief Dustin McCullough said the fire department got a call from a monitoring company saying a fire alarm was going off at 3:27 a.m. The fire department sent six fire trucks and a medical unit to battle the blaze.

“There’s significant damage in the main fire sweep, for sure,” he said.

McCullough said minor smoke and water damage occurred at M&M Foods, which is located next to the clinic.

Nobody was hurt in the fire, and investigators are still working to determine the cause.

McCullough said fires in commercial buildings present different challenges than house fires.

“When you get into the commercial buildings like this, access is a challenge,” he said.

“Security is a little better. Doors on the backside of the building are very secure to prevent break-ins, so it creates challenges for our crews to gain access and get in.”

McCullough said firefighters got into the unit where the fire was burning through another business.
