Kicker Brett Lauther is a Saskatchewan Roughrider once again after a trade with the Ottawa Redblacks.
According to the Roughriders, the team acquired Lauther in exchange for their fifth-round pick in the CFL’s 2027 draft.

Lauther spent eight previous seasons with the Riders, suiting up for 114 regular-season games and eight playoff appearances, including the team’s 2025 Grey Cup championship win.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have acquired National kicker Brett Lauther in a trade with the Ottawa REDBLACKS. In exchange, the Roughriders have sent their fifth-round selection in the 2027 CFL Draft to Ottawa.

During his time with the Roughriders, Lauther made 295 of his 360 field goal attempts, giving him the best accuracy rating in the team’s history among kickers with more than 100 attempts (81.9 per cent). The Nova Scotia kicker has also booted 433 kickoffs for an average of 63 yards.
Lauther was released by the team in February. This season, he appeared in 12 games for Ottawa, making 32 of his 34 field goal attempts and 22 of 23 conversions.
The Roughriders have struggled with kicking in 2026, moving kicker Alex Hale to the practice roster earlier this month and giving Dawson Hodge his first CFL start. Before he was moved to the practice roster, Hale had made 24 of his 32 field goal attempts with the Riders, but went six for 13 when the distance was 40 yards or greater.
