The Saskatchewan Health Authority said the two new metal detectors added to St. Paul’s Hospital will improve safety for patients, visitors and staff at the facility.
According to the health authority, the new metal detectors were up and running as of Wednesday, supplementing the metal detector and screening program added to the hospital entrance early this year.

The health authority said its efforts to improve hospital safety is “clearly working.”
“Internal reviews have demonstrated that screening processes at facilities where metal detectors have been installed have already prevented concealed weapons from entering facilities,” the health authority said in a statement.
“Creating a safer environment is one part of St. Paul’s Hospital’s broader commitment to ensuring every person who comes through the doors is treated with dignity, welcomed with compassion and able to access the care and support they need.”
The health authority noted that it continues to participate in an external review of protective services protocols at its facilities, which was launched by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health in the spring.
“This independent review of hospital safety and security is an important step to strengthen safety across the health system,” the health authority added.
