Students at Rosemont Community School spent 15 minutes under a secure-the-building protocol Friday afternoon.
Regina police advised the school to lock the outside doors while officers investigated a report of guns at a nearby house. Police received the information after someone reported an assault took place at the same residence Thursday. This prompted the call to the school as a precaution.
When officers arrived at the house in the 5600 block of 5th Avenue, a man was arrested without any incident and the guns were located inside the house. They were all properly and legally secured. The schools were told to unlock the doors 15 minutes after the original call.
When schools are told to secure the building, the outside doors are locked and monitored by staff members but classes continue normally.
Police announced Friday evening Travis Q. Holtskog, 28, of Regina, is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, and two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Holtskog will make a court appearance at Regina Provincial Court on March 15, 2016.
*A previous version of this story reported that Martin Collegiate was also placed under a secure the building protocol, based on information provided by Regina Police Service. The police put out a second news release correcting that information.
