Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) is now allowing clients to print their own vehicle registration certificate from home.
If you have an account at MySGI.ca, you can already renew your vehicle registration online, but now you won’t have to wait for the new printed card to arrive in the mail. Even if you choose not to renew online, you can still print your vehicle registration by accessing the account.
As a security feature, the new registration cards will not include your home address as they did before. A survey by SGI found that 61 per cent of drivers leave their vehicle registration in the glove box.
With this change, if your vehicle gets stolen, thieves won’t be able to find out where you live by looking in the glove box for the registration.
SGI consulted with law enforcement for support to make these changes.
Once the current SGI issuers run out of green cardstock paper, all vehicle registration certificates will be printed on plain white paper.
The crown corporation estimates it will save $120,000 in paper costs and $400,000 in postage.
