In the R-rated Marvel movie Deadpool, the main character Wade Wilson, aka ‘Deadpool,’ announces that he’s from “Regina, Saskatchewan, the town that rhymes with fun”.
The quick shout out to the Queen City, combined with the joke we’ve all heard before, has inspired one Regina man to start a petition to get a statue of the superhero built in the city. In just a few days, the online petition got more than 1,400 signatures.
During an interview with the CJME Morning Show, Regina Mayor Michael Fougere quickly shut down the idea of building a statue for a superhero.
Another local man took the idea in a different direction, writing a blog post about local tourism spots that he imagines would have been part of Deadpool’s life growing up.
