Kitten named Daisy rescued from tree in North Central Regina

A kitten named Daisy is safe in the arms of her owner after being stuck high in a tree in North Central for a few days.

Alanna Whippler is with Regina Cat Rescue which got the word out to find someone who could help.

“The neighbour of the cat’s owner messaged us on our Facebook page last night to say that the cat had been up in the tree for a couple days and they had reached out to the fire department and to the animal protection people and weren’t able to get assistance that way,” she said.

Whippler explains that it was an older neighbourhood and the cat was stuck 25 to 30 feet up in one of the older trees.

Regina Cat Rescue normally helps rescue stray cats and works to find them good homes. When the organization put out the call to help this cat on Facebook, the post was shared 90 times within an hour and Dale’s Tree Service came to the rescue.

 “When I arrived on the scene to see what was going on, the bucket truck was already up there, the rescue was in progress, and of course there was neighbours and people standing around just kind of watching to see what was happening,” Whippler said. “When he successfully got the kitten of course everyone started clapping and cheering, so it was pretty exciting and pretty emotional for the cat owner.”

She said the kitten was pretty frantic and weak after a few days trapped with no food, and the owner was all smiles and very relieved when Daisy came down.

Even when they’re not rescuing cats from trees, it has been a very busy summer for Regina Cat Rescue overall. In July the organization reached capacity with 175 cats including about 70 kittens who needed new homes.
