Since I got dragged into this swearing thing by my buddy Jamie Nye, who trolled me on Twitter, I did not write any letters to the Canada Broadcast Standards Council.
Apparently the same guy wrote the council twice in two years to complain about swear words emanating from players wearing microphones during CFL games on TSN. Wasn’t me, but Jamie knows I have empathy for the lone warrior. Even the article posted on “3Down Nation” started with a warning about explicit language because it contained the words used by the players.
Like others, Jamie thinks I’m a prude because I dislike profanities. Hey, sometimes I swear. But I believe people should not have to hear profanities if they’re not expecting to hear them. Minor-sports coaches shouldn’t use them with their players like teachers don’t use them with their students.
During a football game, when the players get into the heat of the battle and the f-bombs start exploding, TSN can use a tape-delay and its “dump” button.
