Swift Current might save the Memorial Cup.
If a few dozen Swift Current Bronco fans follow their junior hockey team on a 16-hour drive to Everett, Washington, how many would make the two-hour trip to Regina for the Memorial Cup? Hundreds, hopefully, thousands.
It’s an important question because the Broncos — and their fans — could save the tournament. Ticket sales haven’t been great, despite having the host Regina Pats as one of the four teams.
Fans are grumbling about high ticket prices, so there are plenty of seats available. Organizers are now offering single-game tickets for $85 to watch the Pats.
Having the Broncos as a second, local, Saskatchewan-based team would certainly spur ticket sales. Swift Current is one victory away from winning its best-of-seven WHL championship series against the Everett Silvertips.
Game 5 is tonight in Everett. For the sake of the Memorial Cup — Go, Broncos, go!
